Still Dating

My Mitch and I love to go on dates. We love going to the dollar theater here in Rexburg, and we love going out for (cheap) dinners. It's just nice to not have to cook or entertain for a few hours. We've found ourselves getting very bored when it's just the two of us.

But, since Nathan's debut in our family, going out has been impossible. Who wants to sit next to the parents of a colicky baby at dinner? Or movies? It's impossible.

Better yet, who wants to try and tote a colicky baby everywhere and not get embarrassed or offended by the rude looks? Not us.

So, we've decided to use a part of our "date budget" every month to get Netflix. We stream it through our blu-ray player (thank you, Christmas gift!) and get dvds in the mail. That way we can make an event out of it. We really miss going to movies so we'll add a movie we haven't seen to our instant movie lineup, grab some popcorn, and make an event out of it. Or we'll play a game and then watch the movie. Or order a pizza and eat in the living room. It's been a great way to still get some "us" time during Nathan's naps...or while he's awake. We've gotten used to tv with subtitles! :o)

And, just for the heck of it, here's my favorite picture right now:
(It's straight off my scanner, so it looks kinda rough!)

  1. The only way that Mike and I have been able to go out on dates since Jasper was born is when our parents have visited and they babysat. I don't feel comfortable asking someone to watch my baby when he is so unhappy/unpredictable and I completely understand how difficult it is to tote them around, keep them happy, and not get offended by those stares.

Your date nights sound great and like an amazing idea. And I'm sure going out with Nathan will get easier the older he gets

  2. What a great idea!

When you feel ready, I swear by babysitting swaps. They make life sooo much easier (and cheaper!).

Other then that...just ignore the stares. They don't go away, I promise :P
